I suppose you could call a recap of history "fake news," but then that would make you a dunce. Nixon was elected on his "secret" promise to end the war, but
extended it four years while trying to bomb the North to the table.

Clyde,
If a person possesses health care, such as it is, only by means of subsidies, and those subsidies are removed leaving said person unable to pay for health care then yes, health care has been taken away from them. Possesses then doesn't possess.

Let them also look into special education & Section 504 violations, along with harassment of teachers & students.

CL,

If the individual was given money for health care in some instance, but not in another, how is that taking anything? It seems to be more of a "not giving" than a "taking".

I think a life is worth a great deal more than a mere wage, no matter it's sum. Based on your comment, someone who is unemployed is worthless until they are once again earning a wage as are children who have yet to be employed.

Editor's note: Just received this from Kyle Veazey, Deputy Communications Director of the City of Memphis:
"Unfortunately, Mr. Smith's column bases its conclusion on a map and plan for parking that is simply not in force. There was a map created last summer by our Division of Engineering, but it was only conceptual in nature and is not the governing document.

When I say a life has a dollar amount, I mean someone who is alive deserves a minimum dollar amount of medical care that should be provided without griping, complaining, or whining.

Mr. Smith's analysis was based on the only public information available to the taxpayers who fund both the zoo and OPC.
The burning question for many of us is why OPC was made responsible for funding half of this project.

What makes it "fake news" is the implication that Nixon is somehow responsible for the existence of the Vietnam War, or the draft. What makes it fake news is the implication that Nixon just woke up one day and decided to attack Cambodia and Laos.

Brichy, where in this column is "...the implication that Nixon is somehow responsible for the existence of the Vietnam War, or the draft".
It is a brief rant, sit tight, read it (again?) and get back to us.

I think we can all agree that the city gov. and the land grabbing zoo bullied and threatened the Greensward supporters to this ridiculous point. Mr. Veazey says the map that the city engineering dept. drew up last year was conceptual?

R,

It isn't in the column, it's in a comment directed at me and, just because I can, Without permission from anyone whatsoever, I was responding to that comment.

Mr. Veazey, conceptual in nature and telling of the mindset of those who care not about the green space the zoo is being allowed to steal.

"When I say"... translation: I did a piss poor job of explaining a a poorly developer concept the first time, so let me change it by saying something else. You did nothing to address my points regarding the fact that you apparently believe that the lives of those who do not earn an income apparently hold no value, so the rest of your comment is worthless.

Kyle Veazey just made a monumental and idiotic mistake in his statement. Based on his own words, the conceptual footprint is not the governing document.

That's a pretty impressive conglomeration of straw man and ad hominem fallacies you have there, @barf.

There is only one way to recognize the value of a life: willingly pay it.

@apok

If we deannex the entire city and surrender the charter to the county altogether, the same thing that happened to the school system will happen again. People don't move out of deannexed areas because they're deannexed.

I finally understand the whole "fake news" thing. Morons label anything they don't understand as fake.

On the other hand, it could be that I recognize that Cambodia's weak border policy led to the bombing in Cambodia. You don't have to like that I recognize this fact.
